     In this latest economy, businesses are looking to trim their budgets to conserve their funds.  What is usually the first item to be cut?  Marketing!  That shows the business simply sees marketing as a line item and expense that can be eliminated until business is better.

     WRONG!  Marketing is an investment in your business - how else will people know about you?  Plus, in surveys, people have said when they see a company cut back on Marketing, they think it is a sign the business is in trouble.  As we all know, it is all about perception.

       An example - right after 9/11, all the fast food chains stopped advertising except Taco Bell.  They continued to advertise and had a much larger market share than the others.

        Another example -

       In the late 1920’s, two companies—Kellogg and 

     Post—dominated the market for packaged cereal.
